How to care for my pet lovebird?
Have a suitable cage size for your pet lovebird. A minimum of 32” x 20” x 20” (81 x 50 x 50 cm) per pair of birds is recommended.
* Be sure to place a cuttlebone and a mineral block in the cage as a source of calcium.
* Provide your bird with some bird multivitamin drops to be placed in the water dish.
* Do not give your bird toys with mirrors, it makes them frustrated.
* Do not give your bird a bird hut or tent made out of fabric, if they swallow the threads they won't be able to digest it and become unalive.
* If you adopt a female pet lovebird, please avoid giving her a hut or tent to sleep in because they usually become cage-aggressive when given a tent, hut, or nest box.
*Stainless steel feeders are best to use for food and water. Always keep an extra water bowl in the cage for bathing. If possible, place your bird's cage near a window for a vitamin D source.
* Place plenty of lovebird-sized wood perches and toys in the cage. (avoid toys with fabrics) * Place a cement perch in the cage for beak and nail grooming.
* Cover the cage after sundown every night so your pet bird can have a peaceful sleep.
* Clean the cage every other day with dish detergent and hot water.
* Give your bird clean water and food every day.
* Be sure to keep its current diet until the bird turns 6 months of age.
* Do not keep the bird's cage in the kitchen area, the Teflon smoke from your pots and pans while cooking is poisonous to birds.
* Do not smoke or use air fresheners, wall plug-ins, and candles near your bird.
* Don't allow your birds to be near coffee, chocolate, and avocado, they are very poisonous to birds.
* Double-check if your indoor plants are poisonous to birds before allowing them to play near or around them.
* Be sure to interact with your baby lovebird every day for at least a couple of hours so they continue to be domesticated pets.
"Happy bird, happy home."
